Restaurant you can throw a snowball at:

  • Roberto’sAcross Old Mammoth Road.  We go here at least once a week.  Maybe because we are lazy, or maybe because they have the best chips, guacamole and margaritas.
  • Grumpy’s Sports BarAcross Old Mammoth Road, great place to watch sports, The food is ok, but the kids like it. Also, good place to get quarters for laundry if the bank or Vons is closed.
  • Jimmy’s- (Med-Greek) and The Red Lantern (Chinese).  One is upstairs and one is downstairs. Both super Yummy! Across the street on the corner.
  • CJ’s Across Old Mammoth Rd.  I have only eaten here once.  But the burger was great and so was the doughnut we had for dessert.

Restaurants, short walk:

  • The TavernOur favorite place to have a drink and dinner. We love to sit at the bar. Many locals and visitors alike. Right down on Old Mammoth Road, about 100 yards past Vons. They have the best Moscow and Kentucky Mules.  Although you can bring your kids here, I would save it for an adult night.
  • The Brasserie– Upstairs in Mammoth Rock and Bowl.  This a nice to have dinner if you don’t want to leave the kids at home or pay for a babysitter.  Fancy- (for Mammoth), great food and views on the deck if the weather is ok.   The kids can bowl downstairs while you have a nice meal.
  • Giovanni’s Great pizza, sit down style. In Vons center.  Good before a movie.
  • The Stove Down on Old Mammoth Rd. towards Vons. Best breakfast spot in town.

Restaurants in the Village:

  • BurgersActually across from the Village.  Not fancy and kid friendly, but food and service is always excellent.  They have much more than burgers and inexpensive. One of our favorites for lunch.
  • CampoUpscale Italian, very good.  Kid friendly, but not inexpensive for pizza. Have a great Thursday Date night special.
  • SmokeYard– Good BBQ and steak.  We go here often when in the Village.  Kid friendly or just adults good too.
  • Kitchen 53– New “Underground” spot.  Hip spot with great music, drinks and food.  Known for their burgers.  Not kid friendly.
  • Sushi Rei– I am a sushi snob, and this place is pretty good and best of all the sushi spots in town.
  • Mammoth BreweryYou will see bottles around out place feel free to bring in a fill up for cheap.

There are many more, but these are our favorites.  Keep in mind, some places are closed from Late April to June and September to November.

Restaurants on your drive:

Heading North

  • Whoa Nellie Deli– If you are heading to Yosemite or towards Reno. Fuel, restrooms, and food. Yes, it is in the Mobile station, but the food amazing.  There is also live music on weekends and an amazing view of Mono Lake.

Heading South (Bishop)

  • Burger Barn: t’s about a mile off the highway tucked away in front of a trailer park on Line Street.  Looks almost like a shack.  Super fresh and homemade burgers, shakes and more.
  • Holy Smoke BBQ: Great service and bbq.  Meats served smoke dry, pick your own sauce.

Take Out:

  • Nik and Willies Right on Old Mammoth Rd.  Great pizza, hot subs and salads.
  • Dominos– no description needed. They deliver.
  • Red Lantern  Pick up only, but right across the street.

Markets:

  • Vons – The main grocery store in town
  • Right Aide- Corner of Old Mammoth Road and Main Street
  • General Store – in the Village.  Cute but pricy.

Starbucks:

  • There are two, one in the Village and one in Vons.

Late Night:

  • Rafters– Good place to listen to live music then just have a 100 foot walk home. Right across the street.  Restaurant is pretty good too.
  • LakanukiI have not been, because I am not 25, but heard it is fun late night.  In the Village next to Smokehouse.
  • Kitchen 53 in the Village has live music on Friday and Saturday 8:30 to 11pm.
